Zinc acetate is the best zinc in lozenges
Zinc acetate is the best zinc salt to be used in lozenges when a high dose of zinc is required for the throat. Acetate does not bind zinc tighly but releases 100% of bioactive free zinc ions into the saliva. This enables the zinc ions to effect locally on pharyngeal mucous membranes. Local effect requires a high daily dose of zinc, preferably a dose more than 75 mg divided in several doses per day. One lozenge should be taken every 2 hours and the tablet should be let dissolve in the mouth for about 20 minutes. Generally, the enhanced dosage for a couple of days or for one week is sufficient for the throat.
Zinc acetate lozenges can be used in common way, too (1 tablet a day), for maintaining the immunity.
