Vita B12 + Folic acid



Vitamin B12 and folic acid are vitamins for nerve system, and their function and activity is interdependent. Deficiency of both vitamins is not rare: the most common cause for vitamin B12 deficiency is low acidity in the stomach which prevents the absorption of the vitamin. Low consumption of vegetables and fruits can cause folate deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency is more in elderly, and low intake of folate is more common in women and middle-aged men.

Vitamin B12 and folic acid for the memory and mood

Vitamin B12 and folic acid contribute to normal psychological functions. Psychological functions mean cognitive performaces such as memory, concentration, learning and problem solving. Long-term low intake of these vitamins can weaken cognitive performances, especially the memory, in the elderly.

Vitamin B12 and folate contirbute to normal metabolism of homocysteine metabolism. In the body, homocysteine is produced in the metabolism of dietary proteins. It is further converted into sulphur containing methione amino acid. Vitamin B12 and folate are needed in the conversion of homocysteine to methione. In the absence of these vitamins, homocysteine is accumulated in the blood stream. High concentration of homocysteine may have harmful effects.

B12 is also well absorbed on the mucous membranes of the mouth if a supplement contains a high amount of vitamin. Let Vita B12 + folic acid lozenge slowly dissolve in the mouth in order to ensure the maximal absorption of the vitamin B12. Folic acid is absorbed in the gut.

* Vitamin is in the form of folic acid in food supplements and as folate in food.
